José Luis Saorín Ferrer's portfolio is not a webpage: it is a surface. A sheet of bone-cream paper where every cv entry — biography, education, projects, texts, the people he has worked with — appears as a geometric figure anchored to a breathing membrane. Concentric circles for biographical strata. Sharp triangles for assumed positions. Thick arcs for long-form narratives. Wedges for discrete events. Spirals for languages acquired. The form does not decorate the entry: it defines it. Geometry is metadata.
There are no menus. You navigate by contact — a finger touches a figure and the content surfaces; it moves and the mesh responds, folds like cloth; you let go and it slowly resettles, never quite returning to its previous position. Between the figures float fragments of the author's own literary corpus — loose phrases the reader can catch by tapping them, like fishing words out of the water.
This is a decision against the cv as a list, against the flatness of the professional document. It is an argument — sustained in composition, in colour, in simulated physics — that philology, software, design and theatre are not separate disciplines that happen to share a profile but a single continuous practice, and that the surface where one introduces oneself ought to demonstrate that from the first instant. Reading is not linear because life is not. The document does not stay still because the person does not.

- Until now a document was an opaque surface: a PDF, a video, an audio file. SPDF opens it. An open standard for documents that have already been read: a single SQLite file in which every passage carries its exact anchor (printed page, folio, second, slide, line of verse) so that a citation can only print what the source says. - On the Lightness of Chance
- Unpublished novel. Three intertwined timelines: a theatre review of an incomprehensible play, the end of a love affair told from the end to the beginning, and a reunion twenty years later in a café in Padua.
- A Postman’s Poems
- Unpublished novel set in Lanzarote. Ana, Juan’s daughter, returns for her father’s funeral and discovers the letters that he, a postman and secret poet, wrote every day to her mother Elsa even after her death. The novel alternates the letters with flashbacks of Juan’s life from childhood to retirement.
- Espirán
- Visual poem on a single page. Seven cantos arranged as a typographic spiral that closes on itself. Espirán (espiral + gavilán, spiral + sparrowhawk) is an Altazorian homage (Huidobro): the word bleeds out, is demolished and remakes itself in its own act of falling.
- The Endless Search for Jean’s Cat
- Unpublished novel. Joan, a 26-year-old programmer in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, happily married to Carla, becomes obsessed with finding Elena, the cat who has gone missing from the house. The search, ever more desperate, drags him into a downward spiral. The cat is the only thing tying Joan to reality, because the cat, in fact, never existed.

- Unpublished book, finished in September 2026, on island identity as something registered and almost sold: the annual report of a limited company, File MA/1402/26 · Financial year 1402-2026, in 105 folios and some 17,200 words. It grew out of a nine-poem collection, Canarias Ltd., which moves from the Meridian and the two grandfathers (the one from here and the one from there) to the Gomeran whistle, the blue chaffinch, the canary who doesn’t know what to say about the archipelago, to Tenerife with S.L. for a surname. A sentimental geography with a fine-print clause.

- Illustrated poetry collection in progress. Lyrical prose + blue ballpoint drawing. A future childhood in a Tenerife where the Teide is already a whale and «only the water remains, the tram». A child creature who rides through the city on the rail, meets animals that weren’t here before, and in the end walks into the sea. A submerged coming-of-age. Two panels done.
- Entre el llanto de la brisa y el arrebol del cielo
- First poetry collection, self-published at 16, thirty pages on nature and emotions. Honestly, it isn’t good: teenage writing with the typical structure of a first collection, landscape as a metaphor for oneself, shaky metre. But it exists, it came before everything else, and that is why it appears here.

- Caligrama trilingüe. Una sola línea —quiero escribir pero me sale espuma…— curvada como una ola y repetida en español, francés e inglés, una debajo de otra, hasta formar tres olas paralelas. La frase, traducida, no se traduce: se vuelve a olear.

- Fue en verano. Una boca medio dormida lee la columna del otro como un texto breve que solo dura lo que tarda en recorrerla. No sentir, sino ser sentido.

- Calligram of a kiss
- A visual poem. A kiss written in a spiral: the soft breath of cold air entering the cheek and slipping into the instant, damp lips, saliva, the cold air that is welcome. The text draws the very shape of the kiss it tells.
- Six holes opened in a moment
- Visual poem in two columns: brown paper, whose Spanish name «means to tear», and a no-place where the roads we will no longer walk are kept. I suppose I too am made of what is torn.

- Dos hermanos —ocho años, casi siete— corren por el campo en busca del tesoro del capitán Carallaga. Ana, la pequeña, dibuja patrones de alas en una libreta. La hora del mediodía y un acantilado. Del pecho roto en las rocas brotan, al unísono, decenas de mariposas.
- The Tightrope Walker
- Un hombre encerrado en una biblioteca lleva meses sin dormir. Las partículas de polvo bailan a su alrededor y le obligan, con cada giro, a leer un libro nuevo. Una culpa atronadora le impide soñar. Lee toda la humanidad y, cubriendo cada página de sangre y lágrimas, fabrica con su desgracia una saeta para atravesarse del cuello al corazón.

- Caligrama acróstico. La sangría de cada línea curva el texto sobre la página dibujando una curva que recuerda la silueta de un plátano y, en el mismo gesto, las primeras letras deletrean P-L-Á-T-A-N-O en cascada. Un diálogo interior con la voz que no se calla.

- Cuento a dos voces en paralelo: dos columnas tipográficas que cuentan la misma escena desde sus dos sujetos, sin que ninguno de los dos pueda leer al otro hasta que las columnas se colapsan en una sola voz y se dicen, contra una boca, las dos palabras prohibidas.

- Una entidad técnica documenta —con pH, temperaturas, registros de incidente— una anomalía: un líquido que ha caído sobre su carcasa y la atraviesa. Cayó. No: se derramó. La máquina aprende a tener sed, busca saborear en su diccionario operativo y descubre que ya no puede hablar de sí misma sin tartamudear.

- Un cuento que se presenta como una carta de su editora: tras leer dos veces el capítulo ocho, le señala que el problema no es la prosa —«la mejor que ha escrito»— sino la estructura. Anouk y Jean permanecen juntos al final. Y eso mata. El propio capítulo, anotado al margen por la editora, sigue debajo.
- I Bite
- Naranja con hebras de limón, un teléfono que vibra contra los dientes, una carrera por una calle que se derrite. Un cuerpo que cruza otros cuerpos —una falda, un brazo, una pareja contra una pared— y los registra todos como un inventario de hambre. Al final del recorrido, la misma fruta. Esta vez con limón en la pulpa y restos de naranja.

- Crónica lunar dictada a cuatro mil ochocientas voces felinas. Entre ellas, una hembra blanca de oreja izquierda partida que sube cada noche durante cuatro años a un tejado de la Calçada do Monte para mirar a la Luna —que la ve por error en un charco de la Rua do Salvador. La fiebre se la lleva a las seis y cuarenta, dos minutos antes del amanecer. Maquetación e ilustración a mano.

- A child decides to shut himself inside a shoebox. As he grows, the cardboard creaks and screams like his mother’s broken finger; so he dreams very very hard that the box turns sky-blue and metal. A fable about shrinking to fit, folding bone by bone, and the last dream: dancing outside the little box.
- How to steal a perfume
- Grasse, 1973: a boy shut in a room that smells of nothing steals his father’s letters; his father is a perfumer. In one, from Santa Cruz, a woman confesses she used up the whole bottle of tuberose and white honey on a stage poison for the neighbour in the turban. Twenty years later, in Paris, the boy films the scene.

- A local derby called by two voices without a single full stop, in which the referee comes out with the freezer and the video review means pulling the head off a prawn to see if it is blue inside. - Video essay on Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown (Almodóvar, 1988). It leaves Pepa’s terrace, travels to the Almohad Granada of Hafsa bint al-Hayy, to the Mambo Taxi, to Nietzsche and A Thousand Plateaus, and comes back with one idea: the terrace is a liminal space, and it does not exist. 28:49, my own voice and 51 original drawings.

- Atmospheric observations on light, or how to place Canarian literature at the centre. An essay that dismantles inventorial Canarianness —Glissant, relation-identity, créolisation— and proposes an atmospheric definition: being-from-the-Canaries derives from the Light, that air leaping from the cleanest ocean to the Sahara’s haze and rendering the world two opposite ways.
